They sent me an:

Opperating System DVD Windows Vista Business (contains software and drivers already installed. For software reinstallation and repairs only)

and a Application and Driver Recovery DVD for Windows Vista.

I did explain to them what I had on the pc, originally XP, then Vista Home Premium, then Windows 7 (both upgrades) They seemed to think these would work OK.

I formatted from the Vista disk they sent to me.

The notebook does not have a floppy drive.

Thanks for helping

Hi kathi,

I am getting a fuller picture now :) ( not before time you say ! )

Is this the disk they sent you?

If so - this is a recovery disk.

Take a look here:

The Vista (business) disk is the one to use.

Hi Ken,

Seems like you are getting closer to the solution!

Yes it was the HP-Vista-B.png disk.

But now I have a new HDD and cannot work out what is preventing to conflict I am still non the wiser.

I don't know for sure if the original XP files are still there somewhere or were wiped out or removed with the old HDD.

How do I know which recovery to go for?

Thanks for your continued help Ken!

Hi kathi

I am sorry that we never got to the bottom of this one.

Please let us know what, if anything, your IT person finds as I, for one, would be interested to know what tthe problem was.
