sax man Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 (edited) Hi Please help. Is there a f number i can use to get my comp into safe mode on opening up. I keep going round in circles at start up. The message tells me that windows needs authenticating , activated and to press yes , when i do it takes me to my name to log on and then tells me windows is already authenticated and the circles goes round and round. I had the comp in for a fault last month and they saved all to a hard drive and i think put their own version of windows in. (spanish comp shop and dont trust them ) I have not been able to update cos message told me that it was an illegal copy. I have the original official disk at home. Hope this is enough info regards Edited July 5, 2011 by sax man Quote
Jelly Bean Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Hello there.... It appears either windows was not activated or possibly you have illegal XP . If you have the XP recovery or install disk at home I would reinstall XP and activate it as soon as possible.... Here is a link to help you with reinstalling windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/install-reinstall-uninstall On startup you prees F8 key and can choose safe mode.....This the the F key you require.... KenB Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Hi David, Took it back to the shop today If you paid for a repair and they have not fixed it, or in doing so they have created another problem ( validation ) then they are obliged to fix it at no cost to you. they think software i've loaded may be the prob The validation problem is NOT linked to any installed software. It is the installed OS that has not passed the validation test or has not yet been validated. More money i think I have already said - If you are getting validation problems then this is their responsibility. They installed the OS. As J-B as already said - if you have the original XP installation disk or recovery disk then it is a simple matter to reinstall. If the shop has put a new OS on your system then they are responsible for the validation problem. Do not pay them any more. You may, after you get your computer back, wish to let them know ( if you suspect that the OS was illegal that they put on your machine ) that you intend to inform Microsoft. MS take this very seriously. See here: http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.aspx When you get your machine home run the Validation process. This will determine if the installed OS is legal. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/genuine/what-is-validation You can then take it from there.
