Guest comish Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I can not get any snapins in MMC. It just says that there is an error, sends it to Microsoft, and shuts down. I am using XP pro sp3. Flash disappeared and I can not get it to reinstall, I can not see any of my devices in device manager. My consol under MMC is blank and it shuts down if I try to add any snap in. This is really getting frustrating.

Guest comish Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Re: MMC and Snap-ins I learned something new which is a good thing. However, the solution failed. Any other ideas? Guest Ronaldo Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Re: MMC and Snap-ins I can only think of corrupted or infected files or a registry error... so up next should be to check for spyware, trojans or viruses... the MMC may be actually hidden by such bugs. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\ and find the file; "MMC.exe"... if the file is there, (which is likely since you've run the "sfc scannow") doble click on the file, and see if that makes the MMC snap-in open or watch for any messages and make notes, you could also check the Event Viewer to se if any errors are registered. (Control Panel\Management Tools\Computer Management\Event Viewer). Next check the MMC.exe file for security permissions to your profile account, maybe take ownership of the file and run several security applications and/or run online antivirus & antispyware scans. Also go to http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm and download the registry fix from line 296 left, to lift restrictions to the Management Console Sap-in. If nothing helps, see if you can reinstall the Management Console from Add-Remove programs in the Control Panel. Recommended security applications: Antispyware-antitrojans A-squared free Malwarebytes anti-Malware Spyware Terminator Super antispyware Adaware 2008 For online scans, should you need to run any, type on the google search engine: "online security scans", "online antivirus scans" & "online antispyware/antitrojan scans" Hope this helps. ----------------------------------- "comish" <comish@discussions.microsoft.com> escribió en el mensaje news:E69FF5EB-E38D-4717-A06C-5F9F2C748EE5@microsoft.com... >I learned something new which is a good thing. Guest Ronaldo Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Re: MMC and Snap-ins Correction: That's not a registry fix from Kelly's Korner but a page full of similar fixes which you may find to technical to bother. Another possible cause could be a stopped service: Go to Control Panel \ Management Tools \ Services \ and check if the Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions Service is running. Go to Start Button \ Run \ and type "regedit" (w/o quotes) and hit Enter. Next follow the registry path, and check if your values are the same. Any difference could mean the cause. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{8BC3F05E-D86B-11D0-A075-00C04FB68820}] @="Windows Management and Instrumentation" "AppId"="{8BC3F05E-D86B-11D0-A075-00C04FB68820}" "LocalService"="winmgmt" ---------------------------------- "Ronaldo" <private_email5@hotmail.com> escribió en el mensaje news:uiEUS9U3IHA.3556@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >I can only think of corrupted or infected files or a registry error... so >up > next should be to check for spyware, trojans or viruses... the MMC may be > actually hidden by such bugs. Guest Ronaldo Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Re: MMC and Snap-ins Another correction: It's this service instead of the previous.
