Starbuck Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 If i can just butt in here. If you are trying to get the info of the Hard drive, this will be available if you run 'Speccy'. Download Speccy and save it to your desktop. Double click the downloaded icon to run the installer Vista and Win7 users right click and select 'run as Administrator'. Follow the onscreen prompts Make sure that 'Run Speccy' is ticked at the end and click Finish. Your system will now be analyzed and the information will appear in the Speccy window once complete. To view all the Hard drive details, click on the Hard Drive heading on the left hand side. Hope this helps. It's a very handy little program. Quote Member of:UNITE

Starbuck Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 How can I run specy if the computer does not start? Sorry i didn't realise you couldn't get the system to boot up properly yet. I've just re-read the thread. i created a recovery CD from a site and booted from there What is the name of this site/cd? I first did the Quick hardware test. All parts (Hardware, memory and HDD) gave "no errors detected". Did it check for malware? it's always a possibility. Is this sequence normal? Boot priority: select 1st boot priority Internal optical disk drive select 2nd boot priority Internal hard disk drive select 3rd boot priority external device 1st boot is the cd/dvd drive 2nd boot is the actual hard drive 3rd boot is any external drives you have fitted. Hard drive is normally first, but shouldn't matter as it's in the 1st 2 options. if when booting , the system does find the 1st option it moves on to the second etc. So if there's no disc in the cd/dvd drive, it should then look to the hard drive to boot up. Jelly Bean Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 If your hard drive button shows no activity then recovery console and startup will not begin..... If you had answered the questions posted for you earlier in this thread we may of got answers and a fix earlier on and helped you earlier.... Failure to answer questions have now wasted your time and ours.... You need to take the laptop to a shop or send it back to Sony as it appears your hard drive is dead hard drive and it needs replacing.....This will also mean windows will have to be reinstalled....
