Hi, I have a hp windows vista laptop. For some reason when I click the power button it starts to turn on(buttons lights up) but theres no visual on the screen, then it just turns off by itself (lights on buttons turnsoff then turns on again automatically repeatedly) it keeps doin this: on and off on and off, until I hold down the power button to completely shut it off. Why is it not turning on right? And how can I fix it? I have all my stuff in that laptop and don't have a backup disc!! Please help, thanks!

Hi and welcome to ExTS

Take the battery out and try with just the mains adapter connected.

Try with the battery only - ( no mains adapter ).

Take the RAM modules out.

They are located underneath a panel in the base of the machine.

Put just one in.

Try booting.

Swap the module over if necessary and try with the other one.

Will it allow you to get to Advanced Boot Options?

Constantly tap F8 about once per second.

Try Last Known Good Configuration / Safe Mode.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi, I have tried all of it but it still doesn't work. As for the RAM stuff I wouldn't know how to do that because I don't even know where it is or how it looks. It won't allow me to get to Advance Boot Options, not even the HP logo pops up on the screen, nothing.

Hi,

If the battery of the HP laptop is not in a good condition, sometimes booting problems might happen. To remove any static charges accumulated in the battery, you would have to remove the battery and press the Power button for about 25-35 seconds. Then reset the battery. Even after this, if your laptop is not booting up then you could perform the battery calibration and press F8 key to boot in safe mode.

Can you confirm that you have tried all of the above please?

Booting Battery only

Booting with power supply only ( no battery )

Booting with no ram / 1 module / the other module

What were the results ?

Any changes in the boot problem ?
