I have built this computer myself a year or so ago

It has had a problem for a while where it has shut down when it got warm but then it stopped completely.

Tried to put a new copy of windows on it but now it won't start at all - goes on as if to boot up (black screen giving above details) then just stops with a cursor and wont move from that.

Is it fixable or should I cut my losses?

Hi and welcome to ExTS

but then it stopped completely.

If it stopped completely - how could you try to put a new copy of Windows on the HDD ?

Is it fixable or should I cut my losses?

All things are fixable - it depends how much time / patience / possibly money you have.

I can tell you that from the sounds of it - this will not be a quick fix.

It will be a long thread.

If you want to go ahead - I, and the other guys here, will stay with it - if you are up for it.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

The cause of overheating and shut down is the build up of dust within the machine itself. If this is a desktop then disconnect from the mains supply. Open the side panel of the unit, and blow away any dust, clean the fans, make sure all vents are clear, if the fans are not working then that is the problem, replace the fan.
