Hi I am looking to buy a new computer but have been confused by the sales people in the usual high street stores so went to an independent shop who gave me these specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 555,3.2 GHz

4GB Corsair DDR3 1333MHz

500GB SATA II

NVIDIA GeForce GT220 1Gb

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (SP1)

1 Year Onsite Warranty

£415.27 inc VAT

My question is - is this going to be a good config for a family PC - doing usual things, kids homework, old games (theme park, sims etc) plus banking, browsing, music, and my charity work (trying to set up a group for young people)

I can't stand the noise of fans whirring all the time so would like a good quiet - if not silent PC - please tell me honestly if I can get this from the above spec or if I could get something better for the price

Hi and welcome to ExTS

I like your choice of forum name :)

so went to an independent shop

Make sure that these guys are reliable and trustworthy.

Have they been in business for long?

Have they been recommended to you?

====================

Are they building this for you or are they selling you a mass-produced HP / Dell / Acer machine from stock ?

====================

1 Year Onsite Warranty

Is this their own warranty ?

If so - do you get a written copy and is it parts and labour ?

===================

Laptop or Desktop ?

I am assuming a desktop due to Video Card quoted.

===================

Presumably you will want to connect to the internet.

If it is a laptop - does it come with an internal wireless adapter ?

If a desktop you could have an internal wireless adapter or provision for an ethernet cable. Does it ?

====================

If it is a laptop - does it come with a web-cam fitted ?(not an external one that you can add )

====================

Is Win7 an OEM installation ? ( no support from Microsoft )

If it is (and it probably will be for that price) then do they supply the OEM disk with it?

====================

The specs that you have given above will be fine for what you want to do.

For comparrison only take a look here:

http://www.dinopc.com/shop/pc/pcs-gaming.asp?idcategory=94&gclid=CI6wy4K3-akCFUFC4QodOGvaXw

There is not much difference in the specs for the £395 one and yours.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
