shutting down applying patches issue

When Windows XP Professional shuts down and there are patches to apply it

states applying patch 1 of 15 and that you should not turn off the

computer... It appears as if it only applies one patch and then turns off by

itself. The next time I boot up and then shut down it says 1 of 14. Does

anyone know why ir's only applying one patch?

Re: shutting down applying patches issue

The other 14 updates might be dependent on #1 being installed.

I don't know if that is the case but before it did 5 in a row like this.

When I tried the updates when logged in (not when shutting down) it said that

it couldn't apply them. This time after I logged back in it does not

indicated that there are patches to apply, but when I shut down it says

installing patch 1 of 15. Could these patches be leftover from before I

applied service pack 3? or do you have any other ideas?

one more thing....I just did it 3 times in a row and every time it said

installing patch 1 of 15 so it appears that the patches are not going to

apply.

Re: shutting down applying patches issue

After installing WinXP SP3 (properly), there will be a few post-SP3 updates

to install but none of them should have been offered or downloaded until SP3

was installed.

Open a free support incident about this, Phil. I smell something fishy.

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for

Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and

e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.

You could go to MS Update and install the needed updates from the website.

Once they are installed Auto Updates will not try to install them at

shutdown.
