numpty Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 hi everyone, my grandchildren have just been playing a kiddie game and a message popped up saying windows was closing to prevent any damage, I am now left with a blank screen, it wont shut down so I can not get into safe mode, can anyone help me please?? Sometimes if a laptop is not on a hard surface when being used it can get hot. Anyway I only know of two ways to get it to shutdown. Use Ctrl+Alt +Delete to bring up task manager then click shut down. If that does not work you will have to manually switch off the power. This is not recommended but is a last resort. ( and glad to see them go back home afterwards ) If that does not work you will have to manually switch off the power. This is not recommended but is a last resort. In rare cases this has caused problems. Always wait at least 20 seconds before turning the system back on. Normally this last resort works. Let us know if it doesn't. Quote Member of:UNITE

Use the button that you power the system on with.... Hold this button in until it powers off. Plastic Nev Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 The safest way is first shut the lid down, then carefully turn it upside down, remove the power connector from the charger/power supply if still plugged in, then undo the battery compartment clips, usually just slide to one side and then lift out the battery. numpty Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 yes there is a green light with the battery and with adapter, but no hard drive noise, it flashes up the logo Acer then goes to a blue screen every minute the logo flashes again...Also when I power on/off it's instant with no noise, which makes me think it's not closing down Quote

Switch on. It will not boot - but does it do anything differently? Switch off. Put just one module back - and try booting again. If this is no go - swap the RAM modules over and try the other one. numpty Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 hi everyone, just an update on this....I sent the laptop back to Acer as it was still under warranty, they couldn't get it to boot either and had to put in a new hard drive I know this may sound a daft question but why would a hard drive stop working in a new laptop? numpty Posted August 3, 2011 Author Posted August 3, 2011 I know the laptop was not dropped, I was just a bit concerned about it breaking as it was only 5 months old... so a computer virus could not of caused the hard drive to fail? (BTW I didn't have a virus lol just curious) Quote

It is not common - but is does happen. Hard Drives can fail. Assume you are up and running again ?
