I have a real poser! I have no sound coming from my computer - the speakers have been tested and work fine and I can play CD's via Media Player BUT, cannot hear any sound when I'm on the computer/internet. I don't know whether I need a sound card or there's something else wrong with it - grhhh! Help!

Hi Carole and welcome to ExTS

There should be a speaker icon bottom right of screen.

Right click on this > is "Mute" checked ?

if so - uncheck it.

======================

Start > Run .....type in .....devmgmt.msc .....ENTER

Click on the + next to "Sound Video Game.."

Are there any yellow exclamation marks / red Xs ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi Ken, thanks for your reply. I checked "mute" and the sound was on BUT, I decided to go into "Help" and started clicking on all sorts (!) regarding to sound and somehow (I really don't know how!) - I got the sound back!! I'll print your message just in case it goes again and again, thank you so much

Hi,

First thing you can do is check the power supply to your speakers. Are your speakers plugged into the wall or power strip? Most speakers have a little LED light somewhere on them indicating their power status. Check your computer’s sound card to make sure it isn’t muted or turned down really low. Next, you can test your speakers’ volume. Play a song or media file, and turn the speakers up as loud as possible until you hear a noise. Finally, if all of your drivers are up-to-date, you need to think about the possibility of bad hardware in your speakers and return them to the retailer or manufacturer you bought them from.
