Since bootvis is not part of windows, you need to find the proper group

bootvis hangs while optimizing

Using bootvis on winxp sp3 I can get it to trace next boot + driver

delays. It gives me a nice bunch of graphs on the next boot. But when I

do Optimize system, on reboot, it says "bootvis is optimizing system" but

it just sits there. I don't see any disk activity. I can do other

things but bootvis appears to do nothing and never finishes.

anyone knows what's happening? thanks

Uhh, what?

BootVis description

BootVis - *Microsoft* tool to provide faster XP boot and resume times

BootVis is a performance trace visualization utility that you can use

with Windows XP systems. Customer research shows a frequently requested

feature that users want from their PCs is fast system startup, whether

from cold boot or when resuming from standby or hibernation.

The Windows development team at *Microsoft* has taken bold steps in

making fast startup PCs a reality with the Microsoft Windows XP

operating system.

Here are some key features of "BootVis":

· Boot to a useable state in a total of 30 seconds

· Resume from Hibernate (S4) in a total of 20 seconds

· Resume from Standby (S3) in a total of 5 seconds

-------------------------

These are also useful links:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BootVis

http://tweakhound.com/xp/bootvis/

And two or a million other sites that carry the tool and have

information about it.

You'll note that MS has basically abandoned BootViz; it was never an

actual product, but something some employees came up with that was handy

to use.

I suspect SP3 may cause issues for it. I know there are some issues

even with SP2.

Re: bootvis hangs while optimizing

Sorry never heard of it, seems like for good reason.

RE: bootvis hangs while optimizing

In bootvis,go to trace, select optimize system. Also, all boxes should be

checked in the L.sub menu except disk utilization.
