Computer off, lights on

My wife is having trouble with her Compaq Presario CQ61 which she purchased about a year ago. It unexpectedly shut off one day, no shut down processes, it just turned off as abruptly as if you had yanked the battery out. For a few seconds it wouldn't turn back on, but it eventually did. Then, one morning, it refused to turn on at all. The Caps Lock light, Wi-Fi indicator, and the TouchPad on/off button are lit, not blinking, just lit, and we can't get the computer to come on at all. I've tried multiple solutions I've found online, but the only solutions similar include blinking lights as a symptom. There are no blinking lights, just the three I mentioned and they are always on. Please help.

Switch on and constantly tap F8 (about once per second ).

Hopefully you will be presented with the Advanced Startup Options

 

If you can get this far try "Last Known Good Configuration".

 

If this fails try Safe Mode from the same list of options.

You can also try taking the battery out and running on adapter power only.

or

Run on battery only.
