Admin Bios Password Reset HELP

Recommended Posts

Posted

Its been 3 years since I had this COMPAQ EVO N610c laptop and never been in

the BIOS. I needed to recently to address memory issues, which I still have.

I lived with it as I did not need to for years but now I JUST WANT to in

case of emergency.

I tried the program downloaded, and burned image to CD-ROM from

http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

with no success.

I still can not get into the BIOS. I called Compaq and they were no help.

Anyone have any ideas here ?

That program you downloaded is for a login password, not the BIOS password.

You really need to contact Compaq support again. Normally you have to

either pull the CMOS battery or set jumper switches in order to clear the

BIOS password. If you pull the battery, you will lose all settings and that

could be a problem. I don't know why tech support gave you the run

around--maybe there was an idiot at the wheel when you called.

Have you tried hitting F10 on bootup? That seems to be the keystroke

per the manual.

According to the manual for your laptop, you need to contact a Compaq service

provider for help in resetting the BIOS password. Odds are, your laptop will

need to be disassembled in order to fix this problem.

Take a look at page 2-2 of this manual.

http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01124486/c01124486.pdf

Bottom line, as Ron Badour as already noted, you need to contact Compaq.

Good luck

Hi Al,

Yes, f10 brings me to the bios, but it asks for administrator password. I

do not know it.

I'm sorry, Didn't really read the subject. You want past the bios

password. I just read the body and you said there you wanted to get

into the bios. F10 is how but that helps 0%.

See this.

http://search.hp.com/redirect.html?type=REG&qt=evo+n6&url=http%3A//h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01119965/c01119965.pdf%3Fjumpid%3Dreg_R1002_USEN&pos=1

Seems to be the manual and they describe how to reset the password.

Re: Admin Bios Password Reset HELP

Hi Ron,

I researched and the program I could have sworn was for AAdministrator

password to get into the bios.

Anyway, I hit f10 at login to get in and it asks for adminitsrator password.

I even tried nothing and just hit enter, i get three tries and no luck.

Compaq told me that I would have to send the computer in and be charged,

becuase they dont know what the password is, and there is no way around to

reset it.

I have done research on this in and out for years. I swear that site was

for administrator...hmm.

Also I tried to pull battery out, and left unplugged and battery out all

night.

The only thing I did not try was delete the SAM file, which rpeoerts from

this board tells me I do not want to do that

Yes - keep asking Compaq or ask in a Compaq forum. This group is for

WinXP and your question has NOTHING to do with that.

Ask elsewhere

Re: Admin Bios Password Reset HELP

The CMOS battery is different from the laptop's battery. I Googled on your

laptop model and the words "CMOS battery" and one of the hits said this

battery was located right next to the PC's battery. The reference Big Al

provided confirms that the battery must be removed to clear the BIOS

password. I still think another call to Compaq is in order because pulling

the battery will clear all the BIOS settings.

WELL, I was hoping there was something I could do in XP. The SAM file in

Windows XP holds my password. Thus this is related to XP !!!!

I have found all my answers to issues here in the past on certian things and

I find it a resourceful tool. Sorry, I went back to the old well at your

expense.

If the machine boots to Windows, you can reset or default the Bios

by doing the following:

Click Start, Run (Type) Cmd [Enter]

>Debug

-o 70 2E

-o 71 FF

-q

>Exit [Enter]

*The character o is the letter O for Octal, not numeral Zero

BIOS level passwords as you described have NOTHING to do with XP. The

OS has not even started to load at that point, which is why you

Re: Admin Bios Password Reset HELP

It will "Default" the BIOS which means all options/settings revert

to their factory values. It should remove or nullify all passwords.

To my knowledge there is no partial reset where only the security

options are reset - basically it's All or Nothing.
