power supply flakiness

Hi -- I have a new laptop running XP2 SP3. I set the power management option

for the screen to blink off after 1 minute, and most of the time nothing

happens. Occasionally, it will go dark, as commanded, but even then the

screen blinks back on to stay after 1 minute. Totally maddening. Anyone have

any ideas? Thanks for your help. -- David

My guess is that you have something that activates (an app?) and turns back

the monitor back on.

Hi David,

You will be looking for a Screensaver or an application that configured to

updates or run a scan or even your Internet Adapter renewing the IP address !.

To see what in the background you can use shellexview:

RE: power supply flakiness

All: Thanks for your help. I figured it out. There's an "Expressswitch"

utility for optimizing CPU usage that was installed (or I may have

inadvertently activated in Power Options) that overrides other power

management. When I set that, all worked normally. -- DAvid
