Guest John Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Can someone explain in very simple terms what benefits I may get from downloading .Net Framework and Silverlight? I am just a humble surfer and Office user.
Guest TaurArian Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Re: Why might I need .NET ..NET - You might need it, you might not - depends upon programs/applications that are installed. Some programs will ask for a specific version to be installed. Many programs don't need it. They are optional. Benefits of the Microsoft .NET Framework http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829019 Silverlight - again optional - might gives some clues: http://turnleft.inetsolution.com/2008/05/wpfsilverlight_part_1.html -- TaurArian [MVP] 2005-2009 - Update Services http://taurarian.mvps.org ====================================== How to ask a question: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555375 Computer Maintenance: Acronis / Diskeeper / Paragon / Raxco "John" <Who90nospam@ntlworld.com> wrote in message news:rbmck.206225$Ek2.193779@newsfe17.ams2... | Can someone explain in very simple terms what benefits I may get from | downloading .Net Framework and Silverlight? Unless you do, there is no benefit to having it. On the other hand, there is no disadvantage to having it (actually "them"; there are several versions and you might need any of them). They take up very little disk space, and if you have them installed, you are ready to run any programs you might later install that need one of them. > and Silverlight? It lets you properly view web pages that use Silverlight. Guest Lil' Dave Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Re: Why might I need .NET Only if the application requires same. Simple enogh? -- Dave Speculation on a product or material that is an obvious need, is not speculation per se as there is no risk to the speculator. Common were those selling food and other supplies in the gold rush days. In this case, its oil and its everyone who bites the bullet. And most everyone has no gold to be made, just business as usual.
