Malware bytes compatibility with BitDefender

Recently upgraded to Bit Defender VPN via support service who in turn deleted existing Malware Bytes protection on the premise that you should not have two security systems on the same unit. Cyber world tells me BD will not update if MB is installed which might explain why the BD icon disappeared from the desk top and appeared to drop BD protection as the few intrusion warnings came from MB. Support (Geek Squad) assured me MB was not necessary after VPN and full BD program was installed. I'm of the understanding that MB has another layer of protection that BD doesn't?
