Guest osu9400 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 During boot, my wallpaper is present, however, when the desktop loads, the wallpaper is gone and my icons sit on a blank desktop. Any ideas why my wallpaper doesn't show? I've tried changing it several times and the same behavior occurs. XPSP2 Pro

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't? The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this? Be sure the computer is clean: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! FAQ - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ
Guest osu9400 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Re: Wallpaper is blank Fixed it. First, I upgraded the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (which is essentially my video driver and changes resolutions when I dock and undock). This didn't work. Next, I upgraded my BIOS from Dell. this didn't work. Finally, I got desperate and deleted all "wallpaper" items from registry. normally, I wouldn't be so extreme but I knew this wouldn't impact the functionality of my machine. This did the trick!!!! I reset my wallpaper, all registry entries were automatically rebuilt, and I can now see my wallpaper image. My thought is that Windows Live Photo Gallery did something. I saw several Wallpaper entries in the registry that referenced WLPG.
