Guest gary hescott Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 i have set up a new identity on my outlook express account for my partner. e-mail can be sent from this new identity but not received. when i try to send an e-mail to this new identity a message appears that states "recipient rejected by server 550 invalid recipient error no 0x800ccc79 can anyone help ?
Guest Doug Knox - [MS-MVP] Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Re: outlook express My guess would be that you have their e-mail address wrong, or their account is misconfigured on the e-mail server. The "550 invalid recipient" says that the e-mail server knows nothing about the e-mail address you're trying to send to. -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows Media Center\Windows Powered Smart Display\Security Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Per user Group Policy Restrictions for XP Home and XP Pro http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Which is it? You can send or you cannot send? Are you on the same network as the SMTP mail host to which you are connecting? They may require that to know you have permissions to use their resources. Otherwise, go into the e-mail account defined in Outlook and enable authentication to the SMTP (outbound) mail host. You can try reusing the POP login credentials or reenter them under this separate authentication for the SMTP mail host.
Guest Unknown Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Re: outlook express Have you set up the new account at your ISP? If the name is different than yours (for receiving) you must set up a secondary account at your ISP. The above mentioned, is not the best way to do what you want. _MOST_ ISP's will give you _usually_ up to five mail boxes. Contact your ISP.

You say regarding sending e-mails using an NTL account: > i can successfully send an e-mail from lisa@ntlworld.com to > gary.hescott@ntlworld.com. Can send from: lisa to: gary > BUT i cannot send an e-mail from > gary.hescott@ntlworld.com to lisa@ntlworld.com Cannot send from: gary to: lisa > when i try to send a message from lisa, the error message appears. And then end with: Cannot send from: lisa to: (don't mention to where, presumed sent to gary) which refutes your first claim. You've mentioned the error message (which is probably an e-mail) but never divulged the entire content of it. Don't describe, paraphrase, summarize, or truncate an error message. Show all of it. There may be other information in it that will help diagnose the problem. Did you yet configure the e-mail account defined in Outlook to authenticate to the SMTP mail host?
