Guest IanUK Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Hi, I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP3, & for the last 3 days when I boot my PC, a error report appears, & informs me that osCheck has encountered a problem & has had to close? I have sent this error report, & tried running my AV, defrag, error check, but nothing is working. When I search my computer, there is an osCheck.exe listed, & it says that it is a Symantec App, & there is also a OSCHECK.EXE prefetch file listed. I did speak to Symantec/Norton earlier, & they said my security is working ok, & to contact Microsoft regarding this, so I wondered if anyone on here can help? Also does anyone know if Microsoft act on these sent error reports, or is it only if they receive a great volume of them? Many thanks.

It appears to be part of their "security" software/suites. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/osCheck-16239.html -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows Media Center\Windows Powered Smart Display\Security Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Per user Group Policy Restrictions for XP Home and XP Pro http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit. Guest IanUK Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Further to Oscheck.exe message Further to Oscheck.exe message Thank you for the reply Doug, I have just been looking through start up programs, & it says that it is a Symantec shared component? Is this why it is asking to send the report to Microsoft? Many thanks.
Guest Doug Knox - [MS-MVP] Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Re: Further to Oscheck.exe message Re: Further to Oscheck.exe message No, its asking you to send the report so MS can analyze the data and either come up with a fix, or work with the vendor to get it fixed. -- Doug Knox, MS-MVP Windows Media Center\Windows Powered Smart Display\Security Win 95/98/Me/XP Tweaks and Fixes http://www.dougknox.com -------------------------------- Per user Group Policy Restrictions for XP Home and XP Pro http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_securityconsole.htm -------------------------------- Please reply only to the newsgroup so all may benefit.
