Guest tjc Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 If I remove an XP client from one active directory domain and then join the same client to another one, is there a way to copy the profile so that the programs and icons will stay the same? I know how to copy profiles in the XP client, I'm just wondering if it works when you remove from a domain and then join a completely different one. Thanks, TJ
Guest Chris Dent Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Re: domain change - copy user profiles Hi TJ, It works well enough on the file level. Watch the permissions if the SIDs for the account are different. They will be unless you used a migration tool and took the current users SID into the SID History on the destination. You're likely to run into a few problems with permissions in the Registry if you copy over the Current User Hive (NTUser.dat). Those can be moderately easily fixed, or you can start with a blank one and rebuild the settings.
