please help

i was trying to play the new battlefield 3 game beta an it was quite laggy on my PC so i ended some processes

on task manager but then some programmes stopped working i went online to download something

wich said would help but my computer stopped responding an i turned my pc of. When i turned it back on

all my folders an files was missing, there was only a few folders left an my memory had gone up

as if i deleted them.

But the weird thing was i searched for the missing files an it appears they have been moved. I cant

access them but i can still see them when i search.

This is what i get..

The item .... that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved..

Can you please help !

I just want all my files back theres 6 years worth of files on my PC + theres over 200gb of music, movies, pictures, documents and programme addons that's gone.

Thanks:

You are just restoring to before you made the changes that made your icons go missing, it will put your system back to the way it was at that point and you wont lose anything only things you added after the point of the restore you choose ;-)

Well the restore point is 30/06/2011 its now 28/07/2011 that's one month, so if i restore it back to then ill lose all my files ive been adding for the month ??

I'm not sure... I suppose you could run a couple of things that might correct this issue you have but I doubt it;

System File Checker = Open Command Prompt As Administrator & Type sfc /scannow Hit enter

The System File Checker will look for any system files/.dll file's that are corrupt and will attempt to fix these normally following a re start of your computer.

Check Disk = Start > Type in Search Box > chkdsk Hit enter

Chkdsk analyzes the physical structure of a disk to make sure that it is healthy and It can repair problems related to bad sectors, lost clusters, and directory errors.

These types of problems can be caused in many different ways ie. System crashes or freezes, power glitches, incorrectly turning off a computer can also cause corruption in the system files etc..

The system restore option is the most sensible and easiest way to try and resolve this issue.

Your files won't go missing when you do a system repair. However any programs you installed after that time will need to be reinstalled and you will need to get the Windows updates, antivirus updates etc. again after the date you choose.

Randy is correct, only programs and updates are affected or removed by a system restore, all files, even right up to this present minute, will still be there after the restore.
