Guest Adam Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I have an Acer tablet that is less than three years old. I am trying to reformat, but I do not have the original disks. I have contacted Acer and as they no longer support the machine or a tablet of any kind, they do not have any software they can give to me. When I contact Microsoft about it, all I received back from them is an email with a standard copy and paste that tells me to contact Acer and/or the OEM help section on Microsoft's site. I have the Key on the sticker that is on the machine, but now I just need a copy of XP Tablet. Any suggestions?

Guest Adam Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Re: OEM XP Tablet I also did this and made my way through to the ordering process. After submitting billing information, I thought my order was processed as I received an email saying my order was processed. I followed up a few weeks afterwards as I had not received anything and was told that I needed to obtain the OEM software from the manufacturer. If that's the case, Acer still provided you with a method to return your Tablet to its original state: that would entail using the recovery partition of your hard drive. Acer also provided you with a method for you to create your own recovery disk. You didn't mention a specific model/number, but Googling, I found this page which has a link to a downloadable guide: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Acer%20eRecovery%20Management.pdf If you have this option, pressing Alt+F10 while booting should get you to Acer's eRecovery Management interface. In the event your hard drive is shot and you'd like to replace it, you would need to obtain a recovery disk. Given the age of your PC, you may just want to purchase a new PC. If not, you should be able to purchase a recovery disk from: http://www.restoredisks.com/ (Since you purchased an OEM version of Windows, Microsoft is not responsible. In this case, Acer is.)

When you buy a computer with an OEM-installed OS, you agreed to have *ALL* support provided by the OEM in exchange for the very low price you paid for the OS. If the OEM will no longer honor its support agreement with you, you have no option but to take them (the OEM) to court. (But I'd be willing to bet that there was a time limit on their support, and you waited too late to have a valid claim.) Microsoft cannot, due to contractual obligations with the OEM, provide support for OEM installations. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot
