Greetings-

 

I have a Windows 2003 R2 Std Ed. SP2 32-bit server that is acting as DC for

our network. Within the last couple months, we have been receiving the

following error when trying to connect via RDP:

"The computer can't connect to the remote computer."

 

TS on the server is running in admin mode, checkbox is enabled under the

"Remote" tab and users/groups have the proper access.

 

This issue happens with XP/Vista clients running both RDP clients 5.2 and 6.1

 

There is no pattern to this occuring. It work for weeks then all of a sudden

the above error appears when trying to connect. Rebooting the server is the

only way to get RDP to start working properly again.

 

When we run the netstat -a command it shows that it is listening on TCP port

3389. One thing that we did notice is that the in the TS Manager the RDP-Tcp

(listener) is gone when this occurs.

 

Is there anything else that we can try? Is this a known bug? Will there be

any type of hotfix available to resolve this?

 

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: RDP randomly stops working

 

Is there anything in the EventLog of the server when this happens?

Does the server function OK in every other aspect when this happens

(user authentication, replication, etc) or does it have other

problems at the same time?

To answer your questions:

 

No, there is nothing in any of the Event Logs.

 

and

 

Yes all other aspects of the server work fine - I can ping browse shares, etc

 

Is this a known bug? I have been doing some research on this and it seems

that others are having this issue but with no real fix for it?

I reviewed the KB article you posted. I am running Windows 2003 SP2 but not

the Scalable Networking Pack.

 

I am assuming the steps in the work around apply to only MS ISA 2004 (which

I am not running)?

No, only step 1 applies to ISA 2004 only. The other steps apply to

all other products in the "Applies to" section.

Hopefully it'll resolve the issue.
