Quick Service Pack 3 Question

Recommended Posts

Posted

Will the Actual Service Pack be modified and re-released?

Or will we have to just deal with all the hot fixes...

I have the CD disk downloaded (ISO) which has lots of other things, but of

course the main part of the disk is the WINDOWSXP-KB936929-SP3-X86-ENU.EXE

(the actual service pack 3).

Will KB936929 be modified so that we won't have to deal with all the fixes?

Thanks

No.

Yes. But that's how it has always been. Prior to the release of SP3,

there were 80+ hot fixes post-SP2.

No.

It sounds like you are in the process of installing SP3. Make sure you

do all the necessary prep work first:

It is highly recommended you image your hard drive before the upgrade.

It's always good to have all the bases covered.

You should also revert to IE6 (if you haven't already) before the

service pack upgrade.

Ohhh, I wonder if this is the reason I cannot reinstall XP3? See

question posted below. Thanks.

Molly

Humph, the first install of XP3 went like the proverbial piece of

cake, now I'm seeing how many problems there can be. I'm not in a

position to backup so I'm wondering if it's worth the

aggrivation/risk.

Re: Quick Service Pack 3 Question

Thanks for the info. I'm aware of most of the issues. The only thing I

can't do is revert back to IE6. So I may need to reinstall IE7 or try

version 8 beta.

At any rate, I have no reason to update yet and don't plan too. After

downloading the ISO CD, added my own folder that contains tools and

hotfixes... so that I can burn a CD. Will do this sometime soon which is

why I was wondering. But I won't update until ...maybe the end of the

year.

Thanks again.

Re: Quick Service Pack 3 Question

Only update if you have some sort of software that requires SP3.

And before updating, Image your software to another harddrive... just to

make sure you can restore.

You're welcome.

I agree that there is no rush. But as long as you are prepared, the

update should be just fine.

One question though:

Why are you not able to revert to IE6?

Re: Quick Service Pack 3 Question

As long as my system has been running good, I usually deleted the backups.

I do this because I regally Image my system to anther harddrive for

backup... so I don't want to Image the backups.

Re: Quick Service Pack 3 Question

At this time, there is nothing out there that requires SP3. But later,

maybe next year, we might start seeing software applications or other types

of installation that requires SP3 (I'm speculating at this).
