Donzie Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Hi, My Acer 292 EXC Travelmate will no longer start up. I have it on mains, so battery shouldn't be an issue. If I leave it for a while it will start up but then cuts out. Trying to start it in safe mode does not help either. Any idea what the problem might be please. My OS is Windows XP. Quote

Donzie Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 it happens just after switching on ... the power light it lit and the bulb icon is lit. it cuts out after a few seconds so would not be over heated by then Quote

michelsmith Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Laptop won't start up Hi, In order to cool the electronics devices in your PC, it has been have been equipped with a fan. Unfortunately if any faults occur to the fan then it may lead to the overheating of your HP Laptops. As a result of this, the laptop components like CPU, hard drive overheats and the system will start malfunctioning. Thus in order to prevent this, always tries to keep your laptop on a flat soft surface. Quote
KenB Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I have it on mains, so battery shouldn't be an issue. Take the battery out - to eliminate it completely. it cuts out after a few seconds so would not be over heated Not entirely true. If the Arctic Silver thermal paste (or similar) has broken down - it could result in a quick shut down. Try taking the RAM modules out and running on one only. If the problem persists - replace the active RAM with the other one. You could try blasting it with a can of compressed air through the vents. Dust can cause all sorts of probems. If, after trying the above, you still have problems, as J-B has already suggested, a visit to the local tech seems to be the only other option.
