Hi,

We have Windows AD with two DC (windows 2003 R2) and 10 servers (2000,

2003 and 2008). We have 250 windows Clients (most XP) and 10 Linux

machines.

I am looking for the simple way to manage all computers from one place.

I need software (system) for Assets management, Software deployment,

Knowlidge base. After months of searching and testing I could not find

the solution. I am the only one System Administrator at our company and

it is staring to be difficult to manage everything manually without

automatic. My brain have no more place to keep all the information. I

need some system which will help me.

Please help me to find the solution. What is your suggestions?

Hello MarcusB,

For centralized management you can use SMS:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sms/bb676790.aspx

Freeware for updating clients will be WSUS 3 SP1:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/wsus/default.aspx

Best regards

Well, SMS or Windows Center Configuration Manager do only part of my

needs. Is SMS not included in System Center Essentials?

Hello MarcusB,

Didn't thought on that one, so looks even better for you. Or do you miss

something from the options?

Re: Windows Management need help

The problem is that I already spent some weeks playing around with

System Central Essentials and could get it working like it should. First

off all it is kind of slow, the other problem is that most computers

could not be contacted for days. It is kind of Beta software. I really

do not like it. The idea and descriptions of the SCO are promising but

in reality it is not working.

I tried to use deployment of the software. It did not worked att all. It

is crap software.

Long time ago I was trying Alloy Navigator, and this was promising, but

it not had software deployment.

Any other suggestions?

Re: Windows Management need help

Hello MarcusB,

Well, i have no experience with SCE, but i am sure there are solutions for

a lot of your problems. So i suggest you post them to this: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1558&SiteID=17

Also have a look here:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sce/bb677155.aspx

http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/essentials/en/us/default.aspx

Just saying the software is crap is something i can not agree, because you

also know that also administrators need help to get things running correctly.

If the software provides this solutions it will work.

Best regards
