Ok, long story short:

My pc kept BSOD'ing when on youtube and similar. This only happened after I got a new monitor.

Was told I needed to update nvidia drivers.

Updated.

Shut down at bedtime.

Rebooted the next day.

No signal detected!!!

But I cant see the flaming thing to remove said dodgy drivers as the monitor is not getting any signal.

Any help much appreciated.

cheers

Hello and welcome....

The first thing to try is shut down the computer then restart it then repeatedly tap F8 key and if a list appears choose safe mode with networking...

Then uninstall the driver.....

Could you redo the startup F8 and choose last known good config from the list?

If not I sugest and I am not sure if it will work, power off, remove cord from power outlet, open up the PC and touch power supply for a few seconds...

Remove BIOS battery count 20 replace reboot the computer, this should reset the BIOS.....

Have you tried a diffrent monitor?

What colour is the light on your monitor?

Have you tried another monitor on the computer?

Go up close to the monitor and can you see a faint picture.?

While computer is on unplug the monitor from the back of the computer count 30 and plug back in......

Monitor light goes green, shows Logo, then shows "no signal detected"

then monitor light goes orange and display shuts off..not the monitor. Monitor has been tested and is working fully on another PC.

I upgraded the drivers and after a restart, there was no display.

The problem I have is that without the display, I cannot change the settings/drivers.

The signal from the pc is not getting to the monitor, the monitor is fully working.

I cannot get the BIOS to display either, I cant see it.

I have tried pressing F8, I cant tell if that works, I cant see it.

I have reset the bio via removal of battery. It didnt work.

Hi,

well, I think that may be the problem perhaps.

Mine is an onboard.

Thinking I may have to go get a plug n play graphics card...but still could be in the same boat...

I think that may be the issue with the drivers, as they may have been for the plug in card and not for the on board...athough info didnt state that, its merely a guess.

Thanks for spreadin the news.

Then its pritty possible the BSODs you were getting were from a faulty onboard graphics and also possible graphics have now died....

I would sugest asking around with friends and see if anyone has an old computer that you could possibly take the graphics card out of just to test your system....

While the computer is on can you see if your CD/DVD drive opens.....

Sounds a silly question but its possible your power supply is the issue and not the graphics, are you able to borrow a power supply from a friend that you know is fully working?

Another thing to try if you have more than one RAM stick inserted is to remove all but one stick and reboot the computer, now does the monitor come on?

Power off remove that stick and place in another and reboot...

Yes faulty or BAD RAM can cause a black screen.....

I remember it saying it was dumping.

Something bizzarre like iqsl_blah_blah_blah_bug_ger

I actually searched for it, so if Id have been lucky, it would have been in my search history...but Im not, so its on the search history of the broken pc!

Small addition :

Before you say it, I know...I bought my base from PC World, and just out of curiosity (due to fixing my sons xbox) I decided to check the thermal goo between the sink and processor.

PC world had deemed it ok to use a small circle of paste, about the size of a thumb print. Which is pathetically stingy. I know they are tight, but jeese...

Pasted it up myself, just in case but still no go.

You said F8 wasn't working at all. It can be tricky to get to the advanced boot options as you have to keep tapping at the right time.

that error usually points to a driver problem or memory. As you should only be using the basic drivers when using F8 or safemode this indicates it is not your graphics drivers.

Disconnect all peripheal devices and keep trying F8. If that won't work then I'm betting bad memory.

I agree with Randy the error code points to bad ram , I do have one question though does it beep like mad before your screen goes bonkers ?

Google is your friend

Im getting no beeps at all from the pc, though I need plenty for my bad language!

It never has beeped during this issue.

I did try a ram from a neighbour, but I dont know how he has kept it TBH. It has been tried with no ram too.

There is no response from it other than the power light. No beeps, no thinking light, no signal to monitor.

Have been watching a CPU on ebay just for the sake of trying it.

Might it be worth getting a replacement ram instead/also.

Experience the exact same problem

Hi

Like sheperdless im experiencing the same problems. I would therefor contribute in sharing information from a different standpoint. Ill try to be as detailed as possible about the events and options tried.

My system:

Delivered from a computer assembly store (Multicom.no (norwegian netshop)). Pc is approx 3 years old. Have never had any problems with it.

MY rig:

ECS Elitegroup GF7100PVT-M3 Mothercard PGA775, FSB1333, 4x Sata, 7.1 Audio (GF7100PVT-M3)

PointOfView V54 kabinett 350W black

INTEL Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.5GHz LGA775 FSB800 2MB Cache Boxed 2 X TRANSCEND 2GB DDR2 DIMM 800MHz (JM800QLU-2G)

PRODUKSJONSVARE 750GB 7200RPM S-ATA harddisk 3,5 *** (750GBSATA3.5)

PointOfView GeForce 9500GT 512MB PCI-E skjermkort (R-VGA150908)******

Monitor: Dell 24"

Additional information:

I upgraded my grapich card for about 3-4 weeks ago. That was smooth sailing, no errors and it have worked perfectly since the install. And the TS have througly tested his screen, GPU etc. thats why I dont think this migth have any direct cause to the problem.

New grapich card:

XFX Radeon HD 6670 800 M 1 GB DDR3 (I choose this card because it has extreamly low power requirements. Which was important since i only have a 350 W power supply. Funfact: this card has lower power need than my original and much older card)

Thats my system. Not great but it gives me exactly what i needs from a computer.

When thing went bad:

4-5 days ago.. was waching a youtube video. The screen froze. (This have never happened before actually). I had other stuff to do so I simply powered the computer off.

When I later booted up the computer. the screen said "No signal detected". The screen then went into power save mode whitout a care in the world.

When i unplug the screen cord in and out to the computer. The screen detects this an goes from "No DVI-D cable" (With no connection to the computer) to "No signal detected" when connected. I havent actually had the oppertunity to test the screen on a other system. But i have concluded from reading this post aswell the facts stated. Dismissed the possibillity that the screen is defect.

What happens when i press start button:

Everything powers up as usual.

But no BEEP from bios (got this from other posts aswell)

No signal detected.

What I have tried whitout succses:

1. use the integrated grapich card

2. Test the old grapich card that i replaced (read additional notes)

3. Removed all possible wires and put them back in. (dunno what this would accomplich, but a friend suggested it)

4. Stripped down everything exept ram and cpu. (No difference. exept ofc the hdd, grapich card and dvd does make any noise. Which is not odd.. since they are unplugged.)

a. Changed possitions of the ram. (No difference from 4.)

b. Removed the ram and rebooted (The Motherboard i assume gives of a long beep.)

5. Removed the "clock battery" and restarted BIOS. (No succsess for all i know, I cant see the dos loadupscreen)

I have NO clue on what to do. Im sharing your frustration TS. And hope that my new information tho this problem might give someone any ideas on how to fix this.

Update to previous post

Hi, i delivered my rig to a IT store. Where i discussed the problem whit a seemingly compotent it guy (he had a beard and glasses, jk ;)). He run some tests, and concluded with that the motherboard was busted. Which is the only reasonable answer i can get. Since everything else seems to work. I am sick of this ****.. and im going to buy a new computer tomorrow. Just wanted to inform whoever that care about the status.
