Guest Rod Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I have one user that is attempting to open a file from one of the millions of icons they have on their desktop. The file (excel in this case) shows "locked for editing" with options to notify etc. When she opens excel and looks up the file it opens just fine. This also happend in links from outlook e-mails that are sent to her. Any suggestions? Rod

Guest Rod Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: Shortcut files show locked for editing I'm on SBS 2003 and the files open fine from any other method except from desktop shortcuts and outlook. I don't think this is my issue. Guest Rod Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: Shortcut files show locked for editing I'm sorry I don't understand. I'm having issues with excel files (and others) and that fix is not even on this list? Guest Gord Dibben Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: Shortcut files show locked for editing Try the usual fixes for this. Tools>Options>General Uncheck "Ignore Other Applications" If no joy with that................ Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar 1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK. 2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK. See the space between exe and /regserver You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe. In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe" /regserver(quotes required)>OK.
