shane25 Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Hello I'll start with, when i removed my usb flash drive the notebook turned itself off and would not turn back on, when pressing the power button the light comes on to say the power is there and the lights on the media board (volume, back, start/pause etc) and the cd rom loads up with nothing on the screen, then it just turns itself off again, about 10 seconds later it tries again on its own but just stays a blank screen with nothing. Before all of this the computer its self was running fine with no issues. I've tried to Hirens boot disc and the acer disc but still nothing Cheers Shane Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Hello Shane... If you look real close to the screen or shine a light onto while its turned on it can you see a faint picture of any kind? Lets try something, shut it down and restart it then I want you to REPEATEDLY tap F8 key.....If a list appears choose last known config from the list... If that dont work restart shut down restart,F8 key again and choose safe mode.... This is an Acer and they can be a pain so you may need a few attempts of restarting and pressing F8 to get into the list.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shane25 Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 nothing......... I have also tried replacing bits aswell, ie graphics card, ram, hard drive to no avail When it starts up there is nothing what so ever from the screen, just the fan kicks in the cd rom looks for a disc and then it turns its self back off, the keyboard has no life but the usb is working. When i removed the graphics card and then turned it on a gray screen came up until i put the graphics card back in Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Ok what make and model is your Acer machine? Put ALL origonal hardware back into the computer..... Now the USB keyboard can be an issue.... Can you switch over to the PS/2 keyboard and mouse if you have one? Often if there has been a short of some kind the BIOS is reset and it may not pick up the USB keyboard and mouse... Then retry F8 key..... Disconnect that CD rom drive for me,internaly..... You could try: The screen appears to popup pritty quickly, but does it say Press ? to enter setup? ? could be F1,F2 or Del... Press wich key it says, you may have to be quick with this one..... Load defaults if you can enter BIOS save and exit...... Have you simply tried removing the BIOS battery counting 20 replace it and reboot it? On the black screen does it list your hard drive if you can get that screen up or if its up long enough? Or if you can enter BIOS is your hard drive listed? It is possibly either the USB port/s or USB pen drive is faulty and caused a shortage on the computer and may of killed something..... If you dissconnect all items that are not required for booting the machine can you at least stay on the boot screen or enter BIOS? When I say dissconnect anything not required for booting this would be CD/DVD drives, floppy and hard drive,if you have a card reader disconnect that to......Im trying to rule out hardware.... shane25 Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 you da man, i removed the bios battery like you said, put it all back and it started up, i've started it up and run it in safe mode, i'll do a few chcks to make sure nothing is dead. is there any thing else you can advise, ie replace bios battery? Cheers Shane Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Thats brilliant Shane, often the simplist of tricks can fix an error. A BIOS battery should be replaced about every two years, last time I bought one they was 99p from an electrical shop,so not a great expence... It apeears the USB port or USB pen drive caused a short and possible reset the BIOS or temp shut something down.... Now as we are unsure wich USB item caused the error I would certainly think of replacing the USB pen drive or try it in another machine and be a concerned about the USB ports....However USB ports can be added for about £5-00,they come as a plug n play PCI card.... We dont know wich has caused the issue and using them may cause more severe hardware problems like killing your hard drive.... I simply think a short was created of some kind shutting the machine down.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
shane25 Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 it was a card reader that caused the problem, it will be going straight in the bin. I didnt realise the bios battery had to be replaced every 2 years, i shall get straight on to it There is a good thing that came out of it, i ended up buying a better graphics card (thinking the old 1 was dead) I just have a few software issues to sort out but nothing i cant do. Thank you very much for your help Shane Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Ahhh, card readers again are cheap enough to buy I think I payed about £4-00 for my one...... BIOS batterys die or become low on energey wich can reset the BIOS or demands you reset the BIOS time every time you try to logon on...Pritty annoying, they need to be replaced earlier if the computer has power outages..... Oh I would love to buy two new GPUs,I want to up my dual screens to triple screens..... If you need any other help Shane or advice please feel free to ask... And your very welcome, nice to meet you..... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
michelsmith Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Hi, Try following method to get rid of Black screen problem. 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTER CORD, that's the wall power, remove it. 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS. Quote
