Guest Richard Fangnail Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I'm not clear whether I need SP3 or not. They are going to add it to Auto Updates today. I have XP SP2 and have been loading the updates. I thought SP3 was just a lot of patches, which had already been available through Windows Update. Hence I wouldn't need it. I've been reading today that if you DON'T want SP3, you should load a kit - but won't Autoupdates load SP3, and shouldn't I just load it?
Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: XP SP3 - confused > I'm not clear whether I need SP3 or not. You don't "need" it right now, no. But in less than 2 years, WinXP SP2 will no longer be supported and you'll have to have SP3 installed to be offered any more updates. Guest Jerry Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: XP SP3 - confused Sooner or later you'll need it as other programs are updated and then they will require you to have SP3 already installed. Guest JS Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: XP SP3 - confused Most people have not had problems but there are some that do. I plan to hold off installing SP3 for a while. It's true that if you are up to date with updates as they've come out, you already have most of (but not all) what's there. But there's no reason not to install it, and have *all* the latest updates. YOU need to become educated and join reality. SP3 = SP2 + its hotfixes and a few other nearly negligible to most, changes. Overview Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system.
