Guest Richard Fangnail Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 If you have AU set to "Notify Me" and then you uncheck the update so that it doesn't install, will it reappear the next time there is another update? (I'm thinking of SP3 which I plan to decline.) I am aware on the AU setup screen there is a button to show hidden updates you have declined before.
Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: Declining an Auto Update You will be able to "hide" most updates. You will not be able to "hide" SP3, however. (At least you couldn't the last time I tried it.) Guest Cricketlang Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 RE: Declining an Auto Update Im not quite sure what you are trying to do but this is my best guess. You need to go to your updates and alerts settings and then click on change the way that windows alerts me. then click do not alert me. then if you want an update you can just go look for available updates on the site and choose the ones that you want instead of having them auto installed.
Guest Cricketlang Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Re: Declining an Auto Update ok i have another attempt at this that may be smarter. enable automatic updates but check the option 'Download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them' then click apply and exit. tell me how that one works please.

Windows Service Pack Blocker Tool Kit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D7C9A07A-5267-4BD6-87D0-E2A72099EDB7&displaylang=en Be advised that this doesn't prevent installation via a CD/DVD, or from the stand-alone download package. This simply prevents the service pack from being delivered via Windows Update for a limited time. > I am aware on the AU setup screen there is a button to show hidden > updates you have declined before.
Guest Lil' Dave Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Re: Declining an Auto Update At the user level you will see that such updates are available for download, and, it asks permission to do so (download, which means copy the update to your PCs hard drive). You can bow out here in the process. When the download is complete, it will ask permission to process/install the update. You will be offered 2 alternative means of installing the update(s). When your selection is made, the installation process will begin. If you cancel the installation, update will bug you until you approve the installation and let it proceed. -- Dave Speculation on a product or material that is an obvious need, is not speculation per se as there is no risk to the speculator.
