Hey people

my mum and dads computer had a trojan virus on it and i installed a new hard drive (this is where i thought viruses would be stored please correct me if i am wrong).

After i installed windows xp on the new hard drive and went through all the settings, when i turn the computer on it goes to the log on screen and then restarts itself after that its fine.

The computer itself is quite old. Quite a crappy spec 512mb ddr ram dont know about processor or nothing.

Any ideas on how i can fix this problem?

Many thanks

Jay

Mmmmmmm,an older machine....

A hardware driver update may help.

As its old a BIOS update again may help.

Load defaults in BIOS then set hard drive as first boot device...

This could be a peice of hardware causing the issue.

Testing each item individualy to see if one item is causing this.

Disconnect CD/DVD rom drive, now does it restart?

Disconnect Floppy,now does it restart?

And continue on and see if one item is causing this.

Was this a brand new hard drive or a used one?

Is it a large gig?
