I installed the update on the 8th, uninstalled it on the 9th, hid it on the

9th, but Windows Update history still shows it as installed on the 8th, with

no hidden updates. The uninstall log has these entries that may be

significant:

[KB951748Uninst.log]

0.020:

================================================================================

0.020: 2008/07/09 17:10:08.562 (local)

0.020: H:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB951748$\spuninst\spuninst.exe (version

6.3.13.0)

....

48.119: Starting Registry updates

48.119: DoRegUninstall: UpdSpFindFirstLine for Reg.Delete.Values failed:

0xe0000102

48.289: DoRegUninstall: UpdSpFindFirstLine for Reg.Restore.Keys failed:

0xe0000102

48.289: Done with Registry updates

=====

From the Install log:

135.184:

================================================================================

135.465: 2008/07/09 17:24:31.570 (local)

135.685:

H:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\c36c7f4b6082ffbd96a80985adcf3ca0\update\update.exe (version 6.3.13.0)

....

357.454: dumpDownloadTask returned 0xf201 (ready to install)

385.865: KB951748 installation did not complete.

385.865: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf201

[EOF]

An empty folder and some log entries are all that remain....

Thanks

It doesn't matter what Update History says.

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | Select CUSTOM & scan | Select

"Show hidden updates" | Select KB951478 & install.

Thanks for the quick response.... I'd been down that path at least twice

before posting, but must have stopped without scanning for additional

updates when the "restore hidden updates" option was grayed out.

It's time to restart the computer to allow the installation to complete :-)

Re: How do I get KB951748 back?

"Restore hidden updates" option will be grayed out until you've selected

either EXPRESS or CUSTOM. Please choose CUSTOM.

If you find that KB951478 is not listed as hidden:

Open Add/Remove Programs | Make sure the "Show Updates" box is checked |

Scroll down and confirm that "Security Update for Windows XP (KB951478)" is

NOT listed.
