InFerect Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Hello, well I've some kind of weird problem, since last month something happened to my PC, that it started to run really slowly(like 10x times slower then it use to) and all the games that use to give me high fps, now i barely get out low fps, if i can run the game at all. I even tried to change my windows, i changed from xp to w7 but it did not resolve the problem, i tried cleaning the dust out of the pc, and even downgrading and updating the system again but it gave no result whatsoever. Then i thought maybe i'm running only 1 out of my 2cores, but i checked it seemed not to be the issue(if i checked right ofc), and then i tried the website : http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ <- to see is my pc is capable if running few games, and after running few tests, my cpu speed was measured at 500mhz. And then i tought cannot be, i downloaded some program to check it again, and i runned the test and i got 1964.5mhz, well it varied from time to time, but it stayed at around 2k(yet still i think its wrong as i've dual core) please help me get my real/old speed back :( PS my CPU is Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 @2.00GHz Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Hey,could you post your computer specifications please. Have you tried loading defaults in BIOS or resetting vis BIOS reset jumper? A processor dont run at exactly 2.o GHZ,it will rise and fall depending on what you are doing on the computer.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
InFerect Posted August 14, 2011 Author Posted August 14, 2011 (edited) CPU : Intel Pentium Dual CPU E1280 @ 2.0GHz Motherboard : fatal1ty f190hd Ram : 4gb Hard drive : 500GB Video Card : GeForce GT 240 yes i've tried running default BIOS, and what does " resetting vis BIOS reset jumper" mean ? Yeah i'm aware that cpu speed is varying, but it feels much slower than 2.0ghz, i mean i even have to run close almost all of my start-up programs and i cannot open too many web-browser pages, in order no to lag, which never occurred before. Jelly Bean Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Have you checked the speed of your internet as if it has dropped you will not be able to open many pages and it will appear to lag. http://www.speedtest.net/ Have you done a disk cleanup recently? No then I sugest you do one... Have you checked temps of the computer during idle process, medium and high? Download and install SpeedFan please post diffrent temp results: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php Could you have a virus? I would sugest a health check and visit our Malware section and let the security guys look at the results and advise you. There should be a little plastic jumper on the mainboard with either three or four pins... Remove jumper from first two pins then place on middle and third pin for one to two minutes or place on the other two pins.... Remove and replace to origonal jumpers.... Do this while powered off.... Check memory: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/7172-Memtest86-How-to-Run. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Jelly Bean Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Click start/All Programs/Right click on Command prompt and choose run as admin/When the command window appears type in SFC /SCANNOW and hit enter on your keyboard. That is SFC space /SCANNOW...... Let SFC /SCANNOW run..... Also depending on how many processes you have running can slow a machine down.... The GPU you have is not a high ended card and if its getting a little old it could be slowing and you may need a new one in time.... Click start and in the search box type MSCONFIG.....Hit enter on your keyboard. Under startup tab check for items you can stop from starting up,the same can be done under services tab, however do NOT stop any essential services like Microsoft ....... Examples are,you dont need your printer starting up or MSN these are not essential processes.... Excellent speed on your internet, you should of posted it here instead of me searching for it.....:( Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
InFerect Posted August 14, 2011 Author Posted August 14, 2011 (edited) My internet is working fine http://www.speedtest.net/result/1432853988.png And yes i've done a disk cleanup Temps of my pc are low, and yes i've checked it Speedfan results : GPU 25C, System 29C, CPU 38C, AUX 42C, HD0 31C, Temp1 37C, Core0 68C, Core1 67C Virus, well i've ran few tests and i've found no viruses, and i've recently re installed my windows so i really doubt it could be a virus. I've ran MSCONFIG, and before i made this post, i left only the important ones to load at start-up, and trough there i made sure that both of my cores are used. I ran SFC space /SCANNOW as well it found 1 mistake and fixed it Yes im aware of fact that old hardware runs slower, as older it gets, but i mean i would understand 100/200mhz slow down but not 1.5k, i don't think it has anything to do with the age of the hardware for this high drop. Jelly Bean Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 That CPU temp if taken during low to medium processes is a bit high..... Are you sure the CPU fan is spinning? If your CPU is running hot there is a problem there already....Not good, are the fans all clean? Is it fitted correctly and spinning? You may need a new cooler.... Do you have speed step enabled? http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/asmo-na/eng/203838.htm Right click on your task bar and choose task manager and please noye under process tab if anything appears to be using a lot of process. Has your machine every been over clocked? You may have abottle kneck with that GPU and CPU.... I would certainly run the scans our security team provide,as many viruses do NOT show on some scanners, they also can stop our own Antivirus software from detecting a virus.... Opening command prompt and typing in chkdsk and hit enter on your keyboard,it may say cannot run at this time would you like to schedule then hit enter, shut down the computer restart and let chkdsk run see if it finds any errors and let me know.... InFerect Posted August 14, 2011 Author Posted August 14, 2011 Are you sure the CPU fan is spinning? yeap, I open my PC case from both sides , so it gets more air ,and has lower chance of overheating. Do you have speed step enabled? I'm not sure when i go to power plans, i see Balanced power plan activated, should i change it to gaming mode power plan About task manager i'm constantly checking it over, my pc is running so slow now, that if i am able to play i turn off even explorer.exe You may have abottle kneck with that GPU and CPU.... i've no idea about this i will run 'chkdsk' after i finish another virus scan, in my pc, i will post the results here Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Bottle kneck is were a CPU and a graphics card conflict as they are not paired together properly, low ended card higher end CPU.... Leave the side of the case off is not recommended nore is it a cure your CPU is running way to hot and could fail if you do not sort this out.....It is possible it needs some new thermal paste especialy if it has been removed and replaced in the past.....It may need a new cooler fan.......The temp needs to come down as soon as possible or stop using the machine until the over heating has been resolved.... I would not change any CPU speeds at the moment until the temp is brought down.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
InFerect Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 chkdsk : http://i.minus.com/iba0l2tkG.jpg well i honestly have no idea if my pc has bottle neck and ive put both sides of the pc case back on anyway would u recommend maybe just change the cpu itself ? if yes would u have any good offers for that wouldn't bottle neck with my graphics card and motherboard and would be around 100/150euro Quote
Boomer Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 CPU's are designed to throttle themselfs when too hot. If your processor is running 67 degrees idle, this is quite high. I would run speed fan while putting the processor under load. Force the processor to do work and note any temperature rise or throttling. A processor throttling is a sign of heat dissipation issues. i would check for dust, cpu fan operation and then consider re-aplication of heat sink and compound to begin with. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Thankyou Boomer,I appreciate your help..... Inferect I would say a new cooler can for the CPU and reapply some quality thermal paste this should help the situation..... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
InFerect Posted August 18, 2011 Author Posted August 18, 2011 well thx for advice, but after some thinking i decided to buy new pc all together, since my current pc is quite old thx for ur time again Quote
Jelly Bean Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Ahhh ok....I hope you bought a good one.... Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
