Guest whataflamingcrock@gmail.com Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 multiple XP Pro stations going through an SBS2003 box, internet works fine. However, if one ftp's from an XP box to an external site, it will Only work after the xp box is rebooted, and ONLY the first time - every subsequent ftp immediately gets connection closed. If i turn on the ftp service on SBS2003, then of course ftp works fine, but only to the server, not to the outside world. I'm at a loss to explain this behavior - can anyone offer a guess as to whether the problem lies on the XPP boxes, or on the SBS2003 box??? It seems it must be the SBS2003 box, as the connection to external sites does actually work the one time... And please, no debate about using ftp - the real problem is a program that uses ftp in the background, so ftp Must work! And no, rebooting the box each time won't work, because the program first does a test connection when it starts (which works) then it goes to the main screen, re-opens an ftp connection to send the real data, which fails... Lovely, eh?

Lovely, eh? I would suggest posting this in the SBS newsgroups, which can offer specific help with SBS, since it is a different animal. However the first thing I thought is ISA is installed on SBS. This is an assumption since you didn't post any configuration or infrastructure information, such as any apps installed, any changes to SBS security wise that may have been configured, does it work directly off the SBS box, how about any other box? What type of FTP application is it? Is it Windows based? Have you tested FTP using a Windows command line (CMD)? Is a firewall involved? If so, are ports 21 AND 20 opened (21 is session, 20 is the actual data transfer)? Lot's of questions... I cross-posted this post to the SBS newsgroup and set all follow-ups to come back to this and the SBS group to better assist you. -- Regards, Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.
