Guest Unknown Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 A friend has no sound on his Compac desktop.. In control panel, systems, hardware, device manager, when sound and game controllers is expanded the sound driver is disabled. Right clicking to get the drop down menu has no 'enable' to put a check on and therefore cannot be enabled. I'm stumped. Anyone any idea? Bios setting?? Registry bad? Sound driver is latest version from manufacturer. This occurred when restoring system to state it was in when bought. Thanks!

Guest dadiOH Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Re: Sound Unknown wrote: > But how is sound driver enabled??? 1. When booting the machine, press whatever key the machine uses to enter the BIOS set up. The initial boot screen normally tells you what key to press. If you want to pause the screen so you can read, press the Pause/Break key; press Escape to continue. Once in BIOS set up, use the arrow keys to navigate, find the setting for the sound and assure it is enabled. Follow on screen instructions to exit. 2. Assure that a sound driver is actually installed via its details/properties in Device Manager. 3. Install a mixer so the sound driver(s) can be utilized. -- dadiOH ____________________________ dadiOH's dandies v3.06... ....a help file of info about MP3s, recording from LP/cassette and tips & tricks on this and that. Guest Unknown Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Re: Sound This was done. Drivers were updated and reinstalled. However in device manager, with sound and game controllers expanded, right clicking on 'Realtek' (audio driver) there is no item in the dropdown menu to 'enable' the driver.
