Guest Tony Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 I recently installed SP3 and was surprised to find that Windows XP would give me a halt error and reboot itself. This was not due to hardware , but rather the software. I am certain of this because when I uninstalled SP3 problem was solved. My thinking is that somewhere the current drivers I have installed probably are incompatible with SP3. The error as reported after reboot was: Error code 102 Event 1003 Error code 000000c2, parameter1 00000040, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 80000000, parameter4 00000000. System Specs: AMD Athlon X2 +6000 Asus M2A-VM motherboard 2 GB Corsair memory PNY Nvidia 256 MB Geforce 7300 GS Creative Labs Sound Blaster XFI Xtreme Music card. All of the above listed hardware has the current drivers available. Also the latest BIOS for motherboard. Software AV is Bit Defender Firewall is Zone Alarm, updated to the latest release. Any feedback appreciated..

Guest marx404 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Re: New Windows SP3 causes issues Tony, Im not a MVP (but I did sleep in a holiday inn) , but I have been avidly reading up on issues with AMD processors (especially HP computers) which SP3 does not play well with. Did you read the KB before installing SP3? It is enough to scare most away abd stay with SP2. Google for this info, it will help you. -- marx404

Guest Tony Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Re: New Windows SP3 causes issues Thank you all for the feedback, much appreciated. Gary, thanks for the link. Jesper is thorough. Ron: I emailed support in regards to this issue as well. marx: I have looked into this issue and it appears that you are correct in what you have stated. I am certainly not alone in this latest SP3 dilemma. Sticking with SP2 for now. Although I am beginning to suspect foul play at Redmond. Shame shame if this is the case because the authorities will get your name. Guarantee that. "Gary S.
