Woodbug Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Can anyone help me please? In my part of Spain we have had a series of power cuts and although I have surge equipment, both desktops have been affected. One one I can get it to start, but it won't connect to the internet and it wont system restore, even in safe mode. I have a message displayed 'Intel' ® 82945G Express Chipset Family GN Accelerator Drive. Insert Disk. Would this be the cause? If so where do I find this system? Quote
RandyL Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Two computers affected by power surges at the same time. This is not good. Most surge protectors only protect against minor fluctuations. For instance ground strikes by lightening are too much for them. Chances are your mobos suffered damage on both of them. By the way I think that message refers to your graphics. Onboard would mean mobo damage. Not getting on to the internet could be caused by a daughterboard connected to the mobo or the surge could have fried your modem. I have have modems and routers fail because of surges. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. KenB Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Hi woodbug Sorry to hear that you are having problems with 2 computers after a surge. The one that you can boot up may be usable after a little work. As Randy has said, chances are there is some damage to the m/board. The message you are getting refers to the Video Adapter - Is your graphics poor? Right click on the screen > Properties What is the resolution set to and can you alter it ? ( probably not ) I am thinking that a new video card ( inexpensive one ) may ( emphasis on "may" ) solve the graphics problem. You could try re-installing drivers for LAN card. Chances are this may have been damaged too. How do you connect to the net? Wireless / wired ? =============== Regarding your other computer - it may be possible to get data / photos / files from the hard drive if you need them. Do you have data that you need access to on this drive ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Woodbug Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 No boot up Hi KenB Thanks for your advice, I have a disk called UBUNTU for my 'dead' computer and this boots it but it won't access windows or Outlook Express and I need to get to my email info. Can you or anyone else tell me if there is a disk that will boot the computer into Windows? Once I get the info I need out of the machine, it doesn't matter if its a throw-away job, I just need to get it started. I hope you can help, as most of my stuff is backed up onto a second hard-drive and CD's, but not the emails. Thanks, Woodbug Quote
