Been away all day and when I got back the monitor stayed blank. It is a flat screen Dell that came with one my wife bought and passed across to me. It has three buttons in the BRHC along with a light/switch that pulses on/off regularly. When pressed on it attempts a screen but reverts to flashing quickly thereafter. The computer boots up fine as I hear it on the sound system.

Two questions

Can this monitor be saved?

If not what is a reliable screen to replace it? I play no games what-so-ever.

Ok, I'll try it out tonibht on another system. There is an old crt that I can put instead of the faulty one.

flat screen pulses

I could not find this thread so started another but it has no replies. With some thought I was able to find this by going to members list and 'open all threads', so got here.

Ok I tried the substitution of the screen in another computer system and it continued to pulse off then on. I tried the old CRT screen on this machine and it works - so left it here.

I have taken the flat screen apart and there is nowt there I recognise except the wires of course, it has since gone to the recycling centre. I need another but will get a larger one than previously used.

Do you know of any models of monitors I should avoid? That is do some peeps have trouble with some monitors than others?

I see a Sony at 21.5" across that seems to do the trick. It can come with a hd lead as well.

Only just seen this Jim,

I take it the CRT monitor works OK so proving the computer itself is OK.

From there you are looking for a new monitor. As far as I am aware there is little difference between makes of monitor as far as reliability, I cannot honestly say I have seen problems with any one particular manufacturer as far as monitors are concerned, so it is more a matter of what you want in size and cost really.

Oh just seen this reply, sorry about that. I've got a widescreen AOC, well it looks like an A but without the bar across the middle. Its 21" or so across the diagonal and is a flat screen. What a difference it makes to the old CRT screen I have been using. It has taken me a month or more to do this.

cheers

Good to have a nice big wide one, makes the telly look small, mine is a little bigger being 22 inch.

Thanks for getting back and letting us know Jim.
