running a vbs script

One of Kelly's Korner tools (#164 in

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) is a vbs script. I saved it

to my PC, but how do I run in? When I double click it asks me what

application to run to use it and I do not know. When I double clicked to run

it again nothing happens. If I open it in IE7, I just see the text of the

script.

Open xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall.vbs with

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscript.exe

Or make a shortcut :

wscript xp_taskbar_desktop_fixall.vbs

Last chance :

Hi Jeff,

From the sounds of it, your system is of need of a good cleaning. In the

meantime:

Run: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_vbs_file_association.zip

Then try my edit again. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: running a vbs script

Wow, hearing from the source itself! BTW, thanks for all the great work you

do. You are wonderful.

Actually, I tend to run a very clean and secure system and it is possible

that in the past I may have turned off the ability to automatically run vbs

scripts (though I no longer remember when or how I did that .....). I'll

look at the file you recommend, but I actually solved my taskbar problem by

restoring my C: partition from a recent image backup. So all is well and I

no longer need to run the vbs script.

Just fyi, the problem I was trying to solve was the following:

I installed the MS Virtual Desk Manager Powertoy to play with it. After a

while, I uninstalled it but noticed that it did NOT really uninstall and was

still present as a working toolbar in the taskbar. Very annoying! I then

manually removed the 2 msvdm files (ini and dll) and all references to it in

the registry and that eliminated it - except - that the desktop manager

toolbar remained visible in the taskbar. It was non functional but remained

as a non-functioning toolbar option. Finally I bit the bullet and restored

my system to a backup I had made before installing that powertoy which is

why I no longer need the vbs script.

Thank you for writing.

Thank you so much! Your support of my work is greatly appreciated. As for

the rest, how interesting. Perhaps a script is needed for that bug. :o)

Re: running a vbs script

If anyone can do it, you're the one <grin> Actually I installed MSVDM

because the latest PCWorld had a write up about it. So I tried it. I bet I

am not the only one to have done that and therefore there are certainly

others facing the same issues.

Thanks again.

Re: running a vbs script

Hi Kelly

When you do write a script to remove "Windows Manager" from the taskbar

toolbar options let me know. I have a friend who is in the same situation

(uninstalled Powertoy Virtual Desktop Manager but found it is still not

uninstalled). Unfortunately he does not have an image backup like I had nor

a usable restore point.

I deleted the remaining msvdm files and references to msdvm in the registry

so his msvdm is not longer functional but the option to select a

non-functional "Desktop Manager" remains among his toolbars. See

http://www.sephardicgen.com/upload/desktopManager.jpg

So when your repair is ready let me know.

Where the heck are these toolbars listed in the registry? I cannot find

them to delete "Desktop Manager" and help him.
