Naigan Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 First post here so I hope I can make sense! I'm having trouble with my internet at the moment, has been like it for quite awhile since we got a new router, which is a ZyXel P660-HN-F1 (used to be the BT home hub but we had major issues with that dropping out). Every now and again when I try and connect to a website, I get a "DNS look-up failed" error, however I don't think this is the case as when I try to connect to a website using its IP address (bypassing DNS...), I simply get a "This web page is not available because [ip address] took too long to respond". I'm the only person connected to the router who gets this issue, on my desktop (using a NETGEAR 150 Wireless USB adapter) I get it the most, and I occasionally get it on my laptop (no where near as often though). When I look at the logs for the router I get something along the lines of "[my ip address] has exceeded the maximum number of sessions per host" which coincides with me having this issue. If I can get this issue fixed using advice from this forum I will gladly donate a bit of money as it is an issue that is starting to really bug me. Thanks in advance for any help guys. Ps. Operating system is Windows 7 Professional, and the web browser I've been using is Google Chrome, however using a different web browser produces the same result. Quote
KenB Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Hi and welcome to ExTS Your manual for the router is here ( I think ) http://us.zyxel.com/upload/download_library/201008230931232010082309262320040811211941_20101203_1.1_ed1-P-660HN-51_UG_v1-10_ed1_2010-11-29.pdf Take a look at p145 You can try increasing the default number to the maximum or Make the number of NAT sessions blank and click "Apply" This should deactivate the limit set and hopefully solve the "has exceeded the maximum number of sessions per host" problem. Naigan Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 After increasing the default number it seemed to work, but today it decided to start doing the issue all over again... Any ideas? Quote
KenB Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Did you try making the number of NAT sessions blank - i.e no number at all ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Naigan Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 We tried but unfortunately it doesn't let us... :( Quote
KenB Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 http://www.akadia.com/img/zyxel_mode2.gif There should be an option to uncheck the "Active Network Address Translation" ( NAT ) If you get any problems then go back and put a check in the box. Naigan Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 That just stopped everyone's internet from working with the box unticked. Quote
KenB Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 OOps - sorry about that. I assume that you have enabled it again and set the NAT value to maximum ? Try this work around: Get internet access. Start > type in cmd .....ENTER At the prompt type in : ping 8.8.8.8 -t -l 1 This will constantly send 1 byte and hopefully keep the connection live. Don't close the box - shrink it. Naigan Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Can you explain what you mean by "keeping the connection live" and how this could fix the problem? Quote
KenB Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 how this could fix the problem? I didn't say it would fix the problem - I said it was a work-around and I also used the word "hopefully". Can you explain what you mean by "keeping the connection live" I would have thought an ICT Technician would understand that. Yeah I've tried all that, I'm an ICT Technician myself ..... Goku Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Hello Naigan. Some research on the internet reveals that the problems might be caused due to faulty firmware. Have you tried updating it to a newer version (if available) and see if it helps or not? -- Goku Quote
Naigan Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 I have done some searching and there doesn't seem to be any up to date firmware. KenB, of course I know what is meant by "keeping the connection live", I meant in the sense of how this would fix the problem, when the connection is clearly there as no one else has the same problem as me. KenB Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 In your first post you stated ... Every now and again when I try and connect to a website...... This implied to me that the connection had been dropped. The piece of code I gave you will constantly ping 8.8.8.8 - keeping the connection "live". As stated - it does not fix the problem ( as such ) but may stop the connection dropping ( if this, in fact, is the case ). Either way - it will do no harm to try. This error seems specific to that particular make of router. If you haven't had it long I would take it back and swap it for a different make. Is this an option?
