Guest ACMDelete Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Please help! So i was having problems with my wireless internet card, so i installed service pack 2 onto my Windows XP computer Now, when i turn the computer on after it has been off, or i restart the computer, the welcome screen comes up and then my wallpaper shows up, and that's it, it won't go anywhere after that I have to press control+alt+delete which brings up my task manager, from there i stop the "explorer.exe" process and go to file, start new task, type "explorer" and then everything works, my start bar along with all my files and folder and programs come up and everything is fine, till i restart the computer and then i am back at square one... any help?!?! Big thanks! -- ACMDelete
Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Re: Huge Service Pack 2 Problem! 1. Uninstall SP2 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot. 2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis log to an appropriate forum. Check for Hijackware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/Darnit.htm http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm http://defendingyourmachine2.blogspot.com/ When all else fails, HijackThis (http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post your HijackThis log to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/, http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.** 3. Skip SP2 and install SP3, but not until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill of health. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ ACMDelete wrote: > Please help! > > So i was having problems with my wireless internet card, so i installed > service pack 2 onto my Windows XP computer > > Now, when i turn the computer on after it has been off, or i restart > the computer, the welcome screen comes up and then my wallpaper shows > up, and that's it, it won't go anywhere after that > > I have to press control+alt+delete which brings up my task manager, > from there i stop the "explorer.exe" process and go to file, start new > task, type "explorer" and then everything works, my start bar along > with all my files and folder and programs come up and everything is > fine, till i restart the computer and then i am back at square one... > any help?!?! > > Big thanks!
