Weavertron_2k Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Hi, I have just bought a new hybrid drive and tried a clean install of windows XP pro but it keeps coming up 'Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter.' I've tried connecting it alongside the old SATA drive I was using before and it seems to work fine - I can view it in 'my computer', format it, assign a drive letter etc, it all works just as it did before but with an extra drive, I just can't load the OS onto the hybrid drive on it's own. I've tried: changing the boot sequence in the BIOS, which recognises the new drive, adding a jumper to the DVD drive to make it master IDE a different CD drive, taking the CMOS battery out, plugging the drive into a different SATA port, using a different OS disk (a copy of the XP disk and an old windows 2000). The OS disk starts up when I insert it with windows loaded using the old HDD but obviously it won't install because I have SP3 installed which is a newer version. So now I'm out of ideas; can anyone suggest anything else? Quote

I've tried formatting the drive in disk management, allocating a drive letter, not allocating a drive letter, setting as active and not active. Quote

I thought the HDD was a new blank one? SP3 would not be the issue if there is no OS already installed.... Are they FULL install disks or recovery? When installing XP onto a SATA hard drive you will need to install the SATA drivers early in the installation. XP does not come pre-loaded with the drivers needed to run the SATA drive. During the install process you should see this: Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver The installation is expecting a floppy disk at this point that contains the drivers. Are you dissconnecting the old HDD first then trying to install? Yes - if I leave the old HDD connected the system will boot from the old HDD Did you make the copy disks BOOTABLE? KenB Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 I assume that the drive is showing in the BIOS ? If you put it back as a slave in the other system and go to Disk Management ( Start > diskmgmt.msc ) Is the drive listed as healthy? If you right click on it > Properties .....is it formatted NTFS ? From Properties > Tools > Error Checking Check both boxes and scan the drive. Results ?
