Guest Tim Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 We have a user to whom we have granted Full Control permissions to a folder and its subfolders on a Windows 2003 SP1 file server; we have also verified that there are no explicit or implicit Deny permissions in place on the folder in question. The problem is that this user is unable to change permissions to any of these folders, even though his Effective Permissions say that he can. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but can someone help me figure this out, please? Thanks in advance,

That is in the Advanced Permissions and has its own Tab at the top. -- Phillip Windell http://www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- "Tim" <Tim@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:60143A58-CB8F-47AA-8F2B-58001CA3ABFC@microsoft.com... > We have a user to whom we have granted Full Control permissions to a > folder > and its subfolders on a Windows 2003 SP1 file server; we have also > verified > that there are no explicit or implicit Deny permissions in place on the > folder in question. Guest Tim Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Re: Full Control Permissions Unable to Change Folder Permissions I can't do that due to security policy - what happens is, whenever we give a non-admin ownership of a folder, it tends to make a mess of things and we wind up having to take ownership back to set things right - but why would we need to do that when granting Full Control permissions should be giving them what they need? Guest Phillip Windell Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Re: Full Control Permissions Unable to Change Folder Permissions I don't have an answer for "why". I just know that on the times it hapened to me I took ownership of it and it let me work with the permissions. If I wanted to put the ownership back I could log in with the other account and take ownership back. Also as a side note, I am almost always using an administrator account when I mess with permissions,..I don't fool around trying to do it with other accounts. -- Phillip Windell http://www.wandtv.com The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- "Tim" <Tim@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:60FFDF63-8320-48A8-90CC-A3F1EFDFC471@microsoft.com... >I can't do that due to security policy - what happens is, whenever we give >a > non-admin ownership of a folder, it tends to make a mess of things and we > wind up having to take ownership back to set things right - but why would > we > need to do that when granting Full Control permissions should be giving > them > what they need? > > "Phillip Windell" wrote: > >> Try taking "ownership" first. >> That is in the Advanced Permissions and has its own Tab at the top. >> >> -- >> Phillip Windell >> http://www.wandtv.com >> >> The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or >> Microsoft, >> or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. >> ----------------------------------------------------- >> >> "Tim" <Tim@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:60143A58-CB8F-47AA-8F2B-58001CA3ABFC@microsoft.com... >> > We have a user to whom we have granted Full Control permissions to a >> > folder >> > and its subfolders on a Windows 2003 SP1 file server; we have also >> > verified >> > that there are no explicit or implicit Deny permissions in place on the >> > folder in question.
