babyhornetdan Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 As long as you don't access the net - it is worth a try. (don't forget to enable again :) ) Ok will do. Just wanted to be certain lol. Did you make a note of the service that caused the change as suggested? Was this in normal or safe mode? Have you reset all services again ? It was the same which ever were disabled. As i went down the list nothing changed. It would not run in normal mode. You ran MBAM early in the thread and can't run it now ? Strange. Which service caused this? That might have been my fault, its updated itself now and is running in safe mode. Quote
KenB Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 OK - we can rule out Services. Next on the hit-list is Drivers. Again - this may be a lengthy process but it is important that you complete it. Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc .......ENTER In Device Manager make a list of the devices ( on paper ) so that you can check them off. Then right click on the + next to the following ( obviously one at a time ) Disk Drives Display Adapter DVD CDROM IDE Controllers etc Right click on the device and select "Update Drivers" Then select "Search Automatically" This process could take 5 mins or so per driver. If the driver is updated you will be informed on screen. If this is the case re-boot and try in normal mode again. I am thinking that if you can boot up in Safe Mode - this loads with minimal drivers. In Normal Mode ( which brings all drivers into play ) you are having problems. It could be a corrupt driver. babyhornetdan Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 I have checked every single driver (albeit in safe mode) and all are up to date and correctly installed. I cant run the checks in Normal mode as it freezes. However, the blue screen seems to have vanished now. Quote
KenB Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I have checked every single driver (albeit in safe mode) Was this safe mode with networking so that the system could access the net to search for an updated driver? KenB Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Start up in Normal mode and make a note of the time when the system crashes. Then Startup in Safe Mode. Start > type in ......event viewer ......ENTER Expand "Windows Logs" in the left pane. Click on Application / Security / System in turn. Locate any errors that occur at the noted time and date. Copy the error report(s) and post them here. They may ( or may not ) help. KenB Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 I don't think that would have solved your problem - has it ? Do you have a Vista installation disk? (not recovery disks) If so - we can use it to run a Startup Repair. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
