Guest Bobbi Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 A recent virus erased all my restore points. The virus has been removed, but is there a way to protect my restore points in the future? Bobbi

But the better alternative would be to generate a disk image file using Ghost, TrueImage, etc., after any significant changes. It would also be safer since dependence on the hard drive to restore or recover is reduced.

Windows NO Care is one of the worst anti virus programs around and, to top it off, it ain't free. Check out http://www.avast.com for a very good free option. If you want to pay, get Kaspersky or Node32. Alias

Please do not send the same message separately to more than one newsgroup (called multiposting). Doing so just fragments the thread, so someone who answers in one newsgroup doesn't get to see answers from others in another newsgroup. And for those who read all the newsgroups the message is multiposted to, they see the message multiple times instead of once (they would see it only once if you correctly crossposted instead). This wastes everyone's time, and gets you poorer help than you should get. If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup, please do so by crossposting (but only to a *few* related newsgroups). First, I don't personally think much of Windows OneCare. Second, and most important, no security program is perfect, or can be perfect. It's a very bad mistake to put all your trust in any such piece of software. Regardless of what security software you run, it's also necessary to use care in everything you do, and that includes what web sites you go to, what files you download, what E-mail attachments you open, etc. > "Bobbi" <bobbi@example.invalid> wrote in message news:usi07CP6IHA.3652@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > A recent virus erased all my restore points. A recent virus erased >> all my restore points. The virus has been removed, but >> is there a way to protect my restore points in the future? I disagree Ken. There are many wonderful software out there that you can be as careless as you want too, and never be harmed one bit. Many of these programs are great for public computers or those that are just too careless anyway. Some of them are: Virtual PC MojoPac EAZ-FIX The first two are virtual enviroments. They can't harm the main system at all. EAZ-FIX is like System Restore, but protects everything. And if Windows gets totally screwed up and can't even boot in safe mode, EAX-FIX will still restore everything back to an earlier state. -- Bill Asus EEE PC 4GB SSD 2GB SODIMM 16GB SDHC Windows XP Home SP2
