stokersj Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Hi all, got a bit of a problem with Windows Vista. At first it was asking for a product key, which when i tried to enter it, it was rejected. So i used one of those on-line programs which supposedly digs out the correct product key from out of the operating system. This was accepted, but now Windows is telling me that the BIOS is missing a required license. An error code is also given: CODE 0xC004f058. I believe the PC in question has had a new motherboard at some stage & so is being flagged as not genuine? Anybody got any ideas? Thankyou in anticipation. Quote
KenB Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Hi and welcome to ExTS I believe the PC in question has had a new motherboard If it has, and the product key you entered was an OEM key, then there may well be a problem. Also - if the installation disk has been used on another system there will be a problem. Start > type in .....slui.exe 4 ......hit ENTER Select your country Select "phone activation" Have a pen and pencil ready. If this fails then go through the process again and hold on until you get to speak to a person. OEM versions of the Operating System are tied to the original motherboard. They may not be sympathetic - but give it a try. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! stokersj Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 Hi, thanks for the reply. At the moment it seems we're unable to access the start menu. The only thing it allows us to do is connect to the net, limited functionality to buy a product key it says. Quote

KenB Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Please use the REPLY to THREAD button below and not the PM system to reply. Try this number: 0800 018 8354 If you hold and wait you should get to talk to a person. I state again - If a new m/board has been fitted and the installed OS was an OEM you may not get very far with Microsoft.
