Guest Dig Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I have a WinXP problem. Even if I try to boot in safe mode i get a blue screen. I have the orig cd but it takes me to choices. 1 of them is to the recovery console. Going there does not seem to afford me any help that I can see. The other is to reinstall. Which I really do not want to do because there are things in the program that I need to keep. So..how can I use recovery console to "recover" my XP without losing everything? Or...is there another way of installing XP without a major loss?? Any help appreciated. Thanks
Guest AJR Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Re: Recover XP Donot select Recovery Console - continue with "setup" - setup will proceed and signify if it has found an installation of XP and will offer the option to "repair". Selecting repair -setup continues - actually it is a complete upgrade installation - product key will be required. If setup does not indicate finding a XP installation? - Problems!!! How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm Microsoft's Windows XP Professional (Pro) Repair Install step by step http://www.windowsxpprofessional.windowsreinstall.com/installxpcdrepair/indexfullpage.htm Keep in mind that while a repair install should preserve your installed programs and data files you should always back up any files you can't afford to lose just in case something goes wrong. You can also expect to have to reinstall any updates/service packs that have been released since the version of XP on your installation CD was released. Good luck Nepatsfan
