MooreIsHardcore Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 No one I've talked to has been able to correctly diagnose my problem. I recently upgraded my CPU from a single core 2.8GHz Intel Pentium 4 to an Intel Pentium D 945 Dual Core 3.4 GHz processor. My Mainboard is an ASUS P5GC-MX Socket 775. 2 GB of RAM. Nvidia GeForce GT 240. 2 frustrating observations I've made since I upgraded: 1) My games and things actually run at fewer FPS than with the old processor. 2) My older Laptop runs games much better than my desktop. Laptop specs: HP Pavilion 6735s. AMD Turion Dual Core 2.0 GHz. 1.74 GB RAM. ATI Radeon HD 3200. Win XP SP3. Things I've already tried to help my computer run better: SpeedFan 4.43 to make sure my CPU wasn't being overheated (runs a cool 40 - 46 C). Updated Graphics Card driver. Turned down all the graphics settings I could. Updated Java, as well as any program / game / application I was trying to use. But even with all this, my games (DDO, League of Legends, Spiral Knights, Team Fortress 2) all run at round 5 - 15 FPS. My Lappy runs at more like 30 FPS. MOST FRUSTRATING THING EVER. I should also point out that whoever installed my Win7 installed a non-genuine copy so automatic updates have been completely absent. Any ideas? Any Tech support desk I talked to said they would have done the same things I did. Please help. Quote
RandyL Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 Hi. whoever installed my Win7 installed a non-genuine copy Unfortunately we are not able to provide help with non-genuine copies of Windows as it's against our rules. My suggestion is to purchase a legal version of Windows from Microsoft and install that. You just might find that things will run a whole lot better. Quote We are all members helping other members. KenB Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 .......Win7 installed a non-genuine copy Thanks for your honesty. How do you know it is illegal? I suggest that you go back to "whoever" ( if you paid for the installation ) and ask for your money back. There is always the option of reporting them directly to Microsoft. If they are trading as computer sales / techs MS will no doubt take up your case. Plastic Nev Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Hi, although at the moment we can't help with very much, once you have made that system legal, if there are still problems there are quite a few things can be tried. Just either obtain a genuine copy of of Windows7 and re-install the system, which is the most preferable, or get in touch with Microsoft and explain the situation, it may mean paying for it but they can sometimes validate the system as it stands. Not the best way though, as it may already be corrupted as pirated copies quite often are. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
