emachines E422 after cracked screen replaced password frozen etc.........

Hi,

can anyone help?,

my screen recently got cracked and so i bought a new screen and replaced it, after putting it back together i turned it on and heard it booting up and all seemed ok, the screen came alive and i noticed for a second or two i think some spec's and something to do with F2 and F12 then it went to a full blue screen with the password log-in, the problem i have is i do not know the password (was a secondhand-gift also i never set it) or can i even try to put a password in because the little dash is not blinking, its as if its frozen, i have tried the logical things like turning it off and rebooting, pressing all of the keys but nothing, the only way i can turn it off is to hold down the on button,

Can anyone think of anything i could try to get it back working, i am a student and very short of funds so really would like to try and rectify the problem myself,

I have to warn you before we go any further - it is not our policy to provide any assistance at all in by-passing passwords.

We have no way of knowing that the laptop is genuinely yours.

I don't doubt that it is - but we have no way of checking. I hope you understand.

We cannot stop you using Google to get past a computer's Blue Screen without the admin password.

 

I have never heard of replacing a screen causing this sort of problem.

 

It sounds like you have more than just a password problem.

 

Did this machine ever work since you had it?

 

If you switch on and constantly tap f8 ( about once per second ) can you access Safe Mode or Last Known Good Configuration?

thankyou for your time, ok i will start from the beginning, i have recently started a collage course and needed a laptop, my son found this emachine e422 at a car-boot sale with a cracked screen, bought it and brought it home along with the power lead etc, I went on-line and purchased a new screen and fitted it and this is where i am at, no i have not actually seen it working, but from what my son tells me it has had some upgrade (maybe memory?) i have tried your F8 procedure but nothing has changed, it still fires up ,the screen goes to some list of text, as follows, nysydel-120 3.5 , system bios version v2.06 bios build date 12/02/2010 and goes on to say the rest of the system but only for about 1 or 2 seconds then reverts to the"Enter correct Password?" but that's where i think something must be wrong, the cursor that i would think should blink just stays frozen, i have nothing to hide rethe password and am happy to give you the serial numbers if you wish?, what do you think might be the problem? or is there anything else i could try, seems a shame to have to give up since buying a replacement screen,

I can't help with by-passing passwords - sorry.

 

As I said before though, you seem to have more than just a password problem.

Is this a new(ish) machine ?

 

You said that there was an "upgrade" (memory).

 

The only 2 things that come to mind at the moment to get you to the stage where you can type are as follows:

 

1. Take the RAM out of the machine.

Switch on - do you get anything different happening?

 

2. Put just one module back ( assuming there are 2 )

Try booting again.

Swap the modules over if no luck.

 

3. Locate the CMOS battery and remove it for 1 minute.

This will reset the BIOS to defaults.

 

The above is not related to your password problem - but may get to the point where you can type.

 

4. There is another option and that is to install a fresh operating system.

There is no guarantee however, that you would be able to do this as, for the moment, your system seems to be frozen.
